Irrigation System
6
View from downstream. The pool was created by the force of the current over the weir
7
View from upstream. The weir consists of rocks from the adjacent quarry and a special clay.
8
Foot valve, suction strainer not shown
9
View from the weir. Notice the sandbar, created from the force of the current over the weir. Water flows over the weir and down to create a pool. The sand then settles further downstream.
10
Elevation from top of weir to pump is about 10 feet/3 meters.
11
Pump suction line is flexible hose.
12
The diaphragm tank holds only a small amount of water, but minimizes pump cycling during no-flow periods. A larger tank, or a full-acceptance bladder tank, would decrease pump cycling. Piping to tank is ˝” nylon tubing.
13
Pump suction line is above ground, at a high school. How many times has it been vandalized?
14
When sizing this pump, lift capability is critical. Calculating lift requirements is an important prerequisite.
15
Pump’s lifting ability formula
16
Lifting ability decreases as flow through the pump increases.
